Can I scale up the BESS Revenue Library contents to match my asset? For standalone BESS and co-located solar and storage.

Yes - we present revenues in £/MW. You can therefore scale up the revenues to suit the size of your asset.

Our model is built to forecast revenues for battery storage up to 300MW. We also forecast larger assets via a custom forecast, using the logic presented here.

How often do you update the model?

We update the model quarterly, but will add ad hoc improvements in reaction to market and regulatory changes. Please see our changelog (tab at the top of the page) to keep up with key updates.

The next model update will be in January 2025.

What is included in the Forecast run library?

Here’s a list of the scenarios offered - in total, in v3.2 of the model, we have 3367 separate runs in the library, available via the modo platform.

Macro scenario - choose from our central, high or low cases.

Zones - 14 GSP Zones. These are mapped to Generation zones for working out Transmission System Use of System Charges for transmission-connected assets.

Asset duration - 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 4-hour runs in the run library

Rated power - up to 300MW

Max cycles - 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 cycle options

Connection type - distribution or transmission

Start date - Projects all start on 1 Jan 2024, and a more specific start date could be picked up with custom runs

Degradation - standard or undegraded. In a custom run, you can input your own degradation curve.

Re-powering - on (10,000 cycles) or off

Efficiency - 88%

In v3.2 of the forecast, we have removed co-located custom runs from the library. All co-located forecasts are so bespoke that they require a custom run. For more info on our co-location model, checkout this page.

How do you navigate the documentation?

It's really easy to use the "Search" functionality to locate key words you're looking for.

Just hit command+k (on a mac) or control+k (on windows) and a search box will pop up. Use this to type in keywords relating to your question and you'll see every mention of that word throughout the documentation.

Can we use the forecast to finance new BESS projects?

You can use Modo Energy revenue forecasts to finance (equity or debt) an asset - whether it's a standalone battery or co-located solar PV and storage. We have been used across several GW of equity-backed projects, as well as for a growing number of debt-backed projects.
